Winter cover crops shape early?season predator communities and trophic interactions

چکیده
Despite the dynamic nature of annual cropping systems, few studies have investigated how structure predator communities and their interactions with prey corresponds crop seasonality. Adding winter habitat, such as cover crops, improves soil health likely contributes seasonal habitat availability for arthropod communities. Stable may lead to functionally diverse predatory associated ecosystem services, biological control. Here, we estimated community functional changes based on foraging traits determined by molecular gut–content analysis (MGCA) in response crops (rye crimson clover) a cotton agroecosystem. Predators were collected from replicated 1-ha experimental field plots during each major stage development 2017 2018, MGCA was used estimate roles responses treatments. Cotton planted into rye residue promoted unique early mid-season compared no-cover fields. Correspondingly, observed dissimilar consumption among Winter led an increase alternative incidental pests natural enemies seedling encouraged high diversity that aligns temporally potential early-season pest outbreaks. Therefore, commonly employed erosion benefits also contribute management providing resources boost

Cover crops have neutral effects on predator communities and biological control services in annual cellulosic bioenergy cropping systems
Maize stover is beginning to be used as a cellulosic biofuel feedstock in the Midwestern United States; however, there are concerns that stover removal could result in increased soil erosion and loss of soil organic matter. Use of a winter cover crop following maize harvest has the potential to mitigate these impacts and may have additional benefits by providing continuous living cover in annua...
متن کاملSeasonal shifts in predator body size diversity and trophic interactions in size-structured predator-prey systems.
1. Theory suggests that the relationship between predator diversity and prey suppression should depend on variation in predator traits such as body size, which strongly influences the type and strength of species interactions. Prey species often face a range of different sized predators, and the composition of body sizes of predators can vary between communities and within communities across se...

agricultural sustainability is closely related with the efficient use of natural resources, which are primarily transformed by the action of microorganisms. soil microorganisms are usually used as early indicators of soil quality since they rapidly respond to changes in soil management. a field experiment was carried out aiming to evaluate the effect of siratro (macroptylium atropurpureum), bah...
متن کاملEfficacy of Cotton Root Destruction and Winter Cover Crops for Suppression of Hoplolaimus columbus.
The efficacy of rye (Secale cereale) and wheat (Triticum aestivum) winter cover crops and cotton stalk and root destruction (i.e., pulling them up) were evaluated in field tests during two growing seasons for Hoplolaimus columbus management in cotton. The effect of removing debris from the field following root destruction also was evaluated. Wheat and rye produced similar amounts of biomass, an...
متن کاملWinter Cover Crops and Vinegar for Early-Season Weed Control in Sustainable Cotton
Weeds may be suppressed by winter cover crops and the use of organic herbicides such as vinegar. Black oat (Avena strigosa) and hairy vetch (Vicia villosa) winter cover crops were planted for 2 years as part of a sustainable production system for cotton in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas, and were till-killed each spring prior to cotton planting. Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri), commo...
